Larget N-Guage Railroad Layout

Model railroading has flourished as many people are fans of the railroads. The development of the N-guage model railroad was one of the key events in the evolution of he hobby.
Over the years many people have assembled model trains, and some have taken the adventure further by building some very large ones.

San Diego Railroad Museum

The largest in the United States, and one of the largest in the world, is at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. This layout has been in the works for decades with four clubs working on the extensive project.
There are 33 miles of track and more than 500 handmade turnouts. There are structures of San Diego such as the Sante Fe Depot visible. The model of the depot was made from the actual blueprints, and mostly made by hand by local craftsmen. Great care is taken, down to the place mats in the cafe. The same care is taken with the model railroad itself.

Stuttgart Station

One of the largest in Europe is a model of the Stuttgart main railway station in Germany, began in 1978. The project was up to 8,100 square feet by 2008. It is an exact replica of the station itself. It is computer controlled and has 27 computers in operation.

Wunderland in Hamburg

While the Stuttgart station is huge and a great replica, the largest railroad exhibit is nearby in Hamburg, Germany. It is called the Wunderland and has sections for the towns of Harz and Knuffingen in addition to Hamburg. There is an Alps and Austria section, as well as Scandinavia, Switzerland, the United States and the Knuffingen airport. Italian and French railroads are also planned, as well as more scale models of airports. Each area has its own topic and stays true to that, but they are all connected and the flow from one to another seems natural.
